Shoot: Hummingbird Necklace by the Magpie Project

The Hummingbird Inner Tube Pendant Design from the Magpie Project (here)

Over a month ago I visited Olivia from the Magpie Project to find out more about their unique necklaces and other products made from upcycling everyday objects (review here). I was lucky enough to be gifted with one of their necklaces so I thought I would share it on the blog. The necklace sums up their ethos as a project because apart from the glue used to secure the loop to the pendant, the entire necklace has been upcycled. The pendant is made from the inner tube of a bike tyre and the wire it hangs from the the wire used to give the tyre its shape. They are completely hand cut, making the intricacy of the hummingbird details even more stunning- there is a small eye but its tendency to curl hid it.

The only problem I have found is that, due to inherited sensitive skin, I might be allergic to the metal wire. Not great when I really want to wear this more often. Then again, come autumn and winter, I can use it as an excuse to buy colourful polo-necks to rest the hummingbird on. I did wear it out once with a purple v-neck, which looked really good. So I look forward to wearing it more come winter.

P.S. Are sleeveless polo-necks a no-no or retro? One of those items that could go so wrong.
